I hear you! Homosexual Pope Leo X who excommunicated Martin Luther was not as bad as Julius III who bedded a 15-year-old boy whom he made a cardinal when he turned 17. Most Catholics don’t realize how bad the Catholic Church leadership was during the Protestant Reformation. It was as bad then as it is today.

It is my hope that in times of bad popes great saints will rise.

Another amazing article, Gene. Every member of the Roman Catholic Church needs to read this…… I mean REALLY read this and digest the huge scope of sexual abuse. The effects it has on the life of victims are both devastating and life changing. The truth about how these cases are handled when reported needs to come out. The constant cover covering up, dismissing and silencing deepens our wounds, and widens the gaping holes in our hearts.

As a victim survivor,I have dealt with the ugly effects of shame resulting in my abuse. I can honestly say that I am ashamed at my church for the continued crushing effects the abuse has when it continues to be covered up.

We deserve so much more than this…. We deserve to be heard, to be seen and to see justice.

Thankyou, Gene, for writing this article and your continued fight in this tremendous battle.

Thank you for your comment!!! I believe that the statute of limitations for prosecuting sexual abusers should be increased to at least 50 years--if not eliminated altogether.

I made the same recommendation. Great minds think alike!!!

As Catholics, we have a moral obligation to pray for our Holy Father, the vicar of Christ on earth, no matter how fallen he may be. We must pray for his soul, for his conversion, for God to guide him in the truth. As much as we may disagree with Pope Francis, he is still our Holy Father and deserves our prayers. We must pray for his spiritual strength during his time of illness and for his soul.

not holy. not my father. he is an apostate.

John's avatar

Bergoglio was never the pope. He is anti pope, but we must pray he reverts to the Faith and be saved.

CHRISTIAN SOLDIER's avatar

So that's his surname ! 👍

Joseph D'Hippolito's avatar

Chantal, one more point. God is your spiritual father, not the pope nor any man.

CHRISTIAN SOLDIER's avatar

No he is not her father she's a Catholic.

God (Jesus) ESTABLISHED THE PAPACY upon Peter.

We are under no moral or theological obligation to pray for men who long ago abandoned or rejected Christ. Did Jesus pray for Judas after Judas left the last supper to betray him? Did Jesus ask his disciples to pray for Judas? Did the disciples do so on their own initiative?

Did Jesus pray for the Pharisees? Did he ask his disciples to do so? He had ample opportunity to do that when he and they were in a boat and he told them “beware the leaven of the Pharisees.” if he asked to disciples to pray for the Pharisees, that likely would have been mentioned in the scripture account.

Let’s go further. Did God ask Moses to pray for pharaoh?

The Catholic Church, from the pope to the lowest layman, not only has disregarded the innocent victims of evil. The cleric and bishops, even side with the perpetrators of evil over their victims. If you don’t believe that, ask yourself why bishops in this country completely ignore human trafficking, drug trafficking, sex, trafficking, government corruption, and even murder in their “Support“ for illegal immigrants, whom the bishops have effectively turned into a protective class to use as human shields that protect their lust for federal money.

If you don’t believe the Catholic Church effectively sides with the perpetrators of evil over its victims, ask yourself how the Catholic Church has benefited from JPII’s arbitrary and unilateral revisionism concerning capital punishment for murder?

Gene Thomas Gomulka's avatar

All very good points. Thanks for commenting.

Gene, thank you so much for writing what you wrote. Catholics need to wake the bleep up, develop spiritual discernment, and pray for wisdom. Too many of them offer blind deference And obedience to anybody wearing a miter and a cassock. They have effectively made the ecclesiastical apparatus and bureaucracy their God.

CHRISTIAN SOLDIER's avatar

No! this person is not a "vicar" of Christ!. He's an antichrist and you have BEEN CONNED. Catholicism is not Christian it's a evil CULT .😑😐🤨

CalligraphyGirl (Michelle)'s avatar

Jesus founded His Catholic Church AND NO OTHER. Not only did He promise to be always be with it, He had The Father send the Holy Spirit as both protector and "guide into ALL TRUTH." Protestants try to justify their sects' existence by claiming that both Jesus AND the Holy Spirit FAILED. That is blasphemy.

There never was and never will be ANY "justification" (pun intended) for the existence of ANY other church but the Catholic Church. That's why protestants have rebelled against Her from day one (1517). And btw, the Holy Bible was compiled BY the Catholic Church more than 1,100 years BEFORE any protestant sect ever existed. It's ALWAYS been a CATHOLIC Book and has ALWAYS had 73 Books. Not 66. 73.

CHRISTIAN SOLDIER's avatar

You have been conned . Catholicism is not Christian. Study the Bible KJV find out.

I am praying for the Pope's conversion, repentance, and happy death.

Courageous, Fr. Gene, as always. The Jesuits, who abused me at 11 years old, then educated me with their special brands of hell, fire, and brimstone, still live in my mind too insidiously to allow me to speak truth, like you have, about this particular dying Jesuit. The fear that they successfully made my constant mental companion intimidates me and reduces me to one of the weak ones who, though recognizing and calling out his duplicity for years, now prays for him in this hour of his death. Thank you for showing me the courage I lack.

Gene Thomas Gomulka's avatar

Ger,

I think of abuse victims as if they were my kids. To be honest with you, I'm surprised that more predator priests and bishops have not been killed. One reason might be because so many kids don't tell their parents what happened to them. When you watch this video, you might understand why the pope has never returned to Argentina where he received many death threats either from victims or relatives of victims: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9r5M7AEaTk

Fr Gomulka,

Australia showed a couple of examples of vigilante killings of suspected abusers. I can't find a link for the Australian cop who, many years ago, murdered a suspect with his police revolver!

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-17/albert-thorn-guilty-of-bradley-lyons-murder-lakes-entrance/102426248

And there has been at least one in England.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/nov/11/police-overlooked-threat-man-killed-mistaken-for-paedophile-bijan-ebrahimi

Any crime involving the abuse or murder of children will provoke ferocious and possibly uncontrollable emotions. In 2024 the murder of three little girls in Southport, just north of Liverpool, lead to widespread civil unrest. No wonder Pope Francis dare not return to Argentina.

Amy's avatar

I know this is not at the same level of sexual abuse, but I had a nun for 6th grade and she would physically throw kids against the blackboard, throw shoes at us and pulled our hair. She specifically told us "not to tell our parents."

Ger Ahrens's avatar

Thanks, Gene, will watch it right now.

I pray for Pope Francis to recover his health and publicly confess his sins to save Jesus’s Church

Susan Daniels's avatar

I read that the Communist Pope moved pedophile priests from church to church when he was a Bishop in Argentina and Italy. He supported abortion, homosexuality, and illegal immigration. I will save my prayers for good people who deserve them rather than waste them on a hypocrite like him. Millions of Catholics have left the church because of him.

Teófilo de Jesús's avatar

I would say that’s never wrong to pray for God to grant him the grace of body, soul, and spirit he needs most at this moment. Leave it to God which grace to grant. Also, May God grants him the grace to accept the grace, and the grace to accept that grace, and so forth and so on until he does.

It’s a prayer I’ve come to ask for myself too.

Marcia's avatar

I am praying for Gods will

Martha Socorro Korbuszewski's avatar

Agreed.

I pray daily that the Pope will die in the state of grace. I also pray that whenever I start to feel anger or disgust, etc, against him, or am sick or in pain, I try immediately to say a Hail Mary for him. This stops me from having worse feelings and thoughts against him.

Our Lady of Fatima said many people go to Hell because they had no one to pray for them.

Julie's avatar

I pray for mercy for him, but repentance is a prerequisite for such mercy.

Anne Harriss's avatar

Like most people, I pray for his conversion, and his overall health (spiritual, mental, physical), and it is a real battle to make myself do that!

Eddie Edwards's avatar

He is not Christian like a Roman Catholic like other people. He is a Jesuit who’s oath is not compatible with Christianity.

Greg's avatar

He’s a commie shitbag.

He liked Biden because he was a very weak American leader. Whereas he hates Trump whose strength is reflected in how he dealt recently with Panama over the Canal.
