How exactly does this end? These people are the spiritual leaders of billions of people they are total frauds and our bankrupting the church through hundreds of millions of dollars of payouts and hush money laid into the closing of many churches and parishes as the flock disperses and we sink deeper into the abyss.
Who decided that mandatory celibacy was ever a good idea, ever a godly virtue, or was ever going to be able to be honored with the exception of a tiny percentage of human beings??
Thank you for that. I had already read that column of yours, which gave me a lot of background, but I guess I’m still questioning when and how it became an article of faith that Roman Catholic clergy need to be celibate. I was raised in a very strict, traditional Catholic household, and although I no longer go to church, many of my family as well as their fellow Tridentine mass parishioners would see it as an abomination if the church were to change the rules to allow clergy to be married. They are out spoken against the prevalence of homosexual predators in the clergy, but don’t make the connection you do that the rules around mandatory celibacy provide cover for predators. Is it sad to see how the message of Christ has been perverted and co-opted by demons.
My parish in southern England had its first married priest, an ex Anglican vicar, back in the 1990s. He was warmly welcomed. But what on earth did all our existing priests make of it? The celibacy of the clergy is a discipline, not an matter of faith. But, like abandoning Latin in the Mass, changing any very long established practice is a psychological signal that anything might go. Including doctrine itself. Especially when the Church had been defending Latin and priestly celibacy for generations almost in the same tones that it defended the Holy Trinity.
Celibacy is not an impossible ideal. I suggest you read the encyclical, SACRA VIGINITAS, written by the Venerable Pope Pius X11 (March 25, 1954)
Pius X11 wrote:
“Holy Virginity and that perfect chastity which is consecrated to the service of GOD is without a doubt among the most precious treasures which the Founder of the Church has left in heritage to the society which He established. This assuredly was the reason why the Doctors of the Church confidently asserted that perpetual virginity is a very noble gift which the Christian religion has bestowed on the world…”
If I had to take a wild guess, I would guess that you are not a man. Of the thousands and thousands of men with whom I have interacted throughout my life, I know of only one who was not sexually active.
I am not weighing in as to whether or not priestly celibacy is a worthy ideal, but rather commenting on the fact that human biology and God-created natural desire makes it highly unlikely that more than a tiny tiny percentage of 1% of human males would ever be able to keep a vow of celibacy. Perhaps through constant and perpetual masturbation they could keep their vows, but that itself would seem to raise other questions and potential problems. At the very minimum, human males are going to spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about sex if they’re not having any. That would seem to take away from their priestly vocation (if they have one). As Gene points out, more often than not, homosexuals, who are afraid to “come out“ for whatever reason, are drawn to the Catholic Church priesthood, which provides them with a plausible cover for their (at least publicly) celibate lives. I think a fair look at actual history would show that this is a really bad idea and that any organization promoting or trying to enforce celibacy tends to have more than its share of not only not celibate members, but also many perverts amongst them.
Homosexual clergy like Pope Pius XII did not give up a wife and children for the Kingdom of God. Father Carter Griffin, the homosexual rector of St. John Paul II Seminary, writes books and makes videos on celibacy without having a CLUE what it means to sacrifice having a wife and children. Gay popes, bishops, and priests want to preserve celibacy so that they can continue hiding in the closet while you and most naive Catholics think they are both straight and celibate. I wrote this in the past about Griffin who, like you, promotes celibacy:
In 2021, I received allegations of sexual harassment on the part of Griffin from two former seminarians; one heterosexually oriented, and one homosexually oriented. The homosexual seminarian who was studying for the Archdiocese of Washington claimed that he was dismissed from formation not because he was caught engaging in homosexual behavior, but because he refused Griffin’s sexual advances. The heterosexual seminarian, who also claimed being sexually harassed by Griffin, went on to study at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore where he reported being sexually harassed by a transitional deacon, Christopher Pinto. After speaking with both seminarians, I received a copy of a November 1, 2019 letter implicating both Griffin and Pinto that was sent to Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.
Whenever I receive such allegations, before writing to the bishop of the accused priest, I ordinarily reach out to the alleged predator to “get his side of the story.” When I wrote to Father Griffin about the abuse allegations contained in the letter to the Nuncio, he wrote back stating, “I have not seen the letter.” In response, I wrote, “After consulting with Cardinal Gregory and obtaining a copy of the November 1, 2019 letter that he may have covered up along with the Nuncio, I would be open to discussing the allegations with you before I could deem them to be not credible.”
When I never heard back from Griffin or Cardinal Wilton Gregory, I documented this case along with other cases involving former sexually abused, harassed, and whistleblower seminarians in a video entitled, Who Will Save Our Seminarians? When Washington priest, Father Michael Briese watched the video and confronted Cardinal Wilton Gregory with the allegations against both Griffin and Father Adam Park, the former vice rector of the NAC in Rome, Gregory suspended Briese just like Bishop Richard Malone suspended Father Ryszard Biernat for exposing abuse cover-ups in the Buffalo Diocese. After Gregory refused to investigate Griffin and Park, Briese sent a letter dated February 2, 2025 to the Vice Chancellor, Father George Stuart, which identified how the Archdiocese failed to investigate credible sex abuse allegations which in some cases led victims to take their lives. Since Cardinal Robert McElroy was installed as Gregory’s replacement, Briese has yet to meet with him. It appears to some sex abuse advocates that McElroy may be covering up for Park and Griffin like he was accused of doing for Father Jacob Bertrand in San Diego.
I assume that you may not been officially laicized since you have belittled (in one of your letters ) its necessity in reference to another priest who married, had children and is now a pastor in another church. The reason was your assessment of the spiritual state of the one who would have had to issue the decree of laicization. Have you forgotten that JESUS is still in charge of His Church? That GOD writes straight through crooked lines? That priests are instruments? Had the priest you mentioned (who sinned grievously by breaking his solemn vows and marrying without a release from his vows) followed the rule to become laicized, he would not now be living in mortal sin, endangering his immortal soul. His sins can only be absolved by humbly seeking absolution from a duly ordained priest. Hell is real, Father, and it is permanent. The priest has lost his faith. He doesn’t make the rules. JESUS does and that is why He founded the Catholic Church.
If there are, they are voiceless due to retaliatory actions that will be taken against them. I pray for Cardinal Burke to reject the silence and become a pivotal leader of the Truth. May he and others be given courage to privately reprimand the sinful and publicly do what the Spirit requires of him.
All of this behavior gives credence to my position that homosexual acts are a symptom of a deeper problem. It is their solution to their pain. How and why these men made it through seminary and are allowed to shepherd God’s sheep is a travesty.
Not all these men entered the seminary with homosexual tendencies. Some are groomed and turned toward homosexuality by the faculty or by bishops like Theodore McCarrick. Those who became proteges of McCarrick would (perversely) call him “uncle Ted.” A lot of Ted’s nephews are now bishops in the US. It’s a perverse form of spiritual paternity… the way this disordered fatherhood perpetuates itself. The latest example would be the new Archbishop of New York.
“Would this be tolerated if the accusations involved relations with a woman?”
With this single question, the entire farce is exploded. More than this, the astounding depth and breath of the spiritual corruption and evil is exposed. The whole phenomenon is unfathomable and intolerable. Sins over which the very stones cry out are instead a totally integrated and fundamental feature of the entire church system. Mindblowing.
Harlot’s Pride, USA Worse than Sodom, and More, The
[5.86 MB]
Those who believe that Moslems and Talmudic Jews worship the true God deny not only the dogmas of the Incarnation and Most Holy Trinity but also the dogma that Mary is the Mother of God. The epitome of democracy is a baseball game without umpires, coaches, or rules. You say it cannot happen? It has! Referring to USA citizens, John McCain says, “We can overcome every challenge.” Oh, can they overcome sickness and death and find the way to life everlasting? Can they build a spaceship that reaches God’s home in heaven and storm the gates? Can they stop a Hurricane Katrina from destroying most of New Orleans? This is more proof of the evil of democracy and Americanism, which promote the heresies of Humanism and Pelagianism, that man is his own God and hence can be good and create paradise without obeying the Catholic God and hence without God’s grace and other helps that can be obtained only by good Catholics. The national presidential debates prove that most people in the USA care only about their physical life and not their spiritual life. Jesus said, “For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel, shall save it.” (Mk. 8:35) Most USA citizens care only about money, homes, jobs, and health care but do not discuss faith or moral issues. They ignore not only the supernatural dogmas of the Catholic God but also the natural law that He places in all men’s hearts. Last week Connecticut’s Supreme Court passed a law allowing homosexual marriages, the third state to do so after California and Massachusetts. The USA is worse than Sodom and will suffer the same fate—worse because the Sodomites did not try to legitimize their homosexual perversion by pretending that men can marry men and women can marry women. The Republican Party is the lesser of evils when compared to the Democratic Party because the Republican Party is not as evil on moral issues. In the days of the Antichrist, good Catholics will not be able to get anything from the State and hence must depend upon the Catholic God to protect them in miraculous ways, as He did with Moses and the Jews when they journeyed through the desert. Good Catholics put their faith and trust in God and hence do not worry about physical issues. Jesus said, “Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment? Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they?” (Mt. 6:25-26) The 911 conspiracy proves that every USA politician is working for the Antichrist because of their silence in the face of this bold crime by Jews and Freemasons. Anyone who does not believe the evidence of this conspiracy is a liar and cannot expect God to give him supernatural enlightenment. Of these Jesus said, How can they believe hidden things of God when they do not believe the very things that are before their eyes but instead lie about them. BBC News portrayed General Francisco Franco of Spain as a tyrant for killing anti-Catholics who were committing murder and grievously breaking God’s commandments and hence it portrays these murderous anti-Catholics as benevolent heroes, when in reality they are the true tyrants; specifically, the leaders of the apostate Jews, Freemasons, Communists, and the United States. This is yet another fulfillment of Isaias’ prophecy: “Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil.” (Isa. 5:20) Three religions claim the right of total control over Israel and Jerusalem: Catholicism, Talmudism, and Islam. Hence no sharing is possible according to those who are honest about their religious doctrines. How does democracy solve this? It cannot because it ignores the facts that everything that happens in this world is for religious reasons and that the world is ruled and controlled by the Catholic God who will destroy all false gods and all false religions so that after Jesus’ second coming the only religion left on earth for all eternity will be the Catholic religion. (This audio was previously titled Asr149.)
Honestly, how useful are the terms "gay" and "straight" anymore? Look at the case of Fr. Marcial Maciel: he serially abused men, women, and children. Was he "gay"? "Straight"? Or was he just plain evil, and/or twisted in the head?
Also, look at recent studies showing sexuality among the general population. When my dad was growing up in the 60's & 70's, less than 1% of the population was understood to be homosexual. When I was growing up in the 90's & 2000's, I believe that number was somewhere around 3 percent. In the 2010's, it was 10%, depending on the study. And now, in the 2020's, look at how many kids self-identify as LGBTQ: almost 40%, according to one study I saw not too long ago!
Even a priest friend of mine once told me how often he hears confessions of married men who have had sexual encounters with other men....and those men self-identify as "straight"!
What is going on, exactly? Seems to me like the farther our society moves away from tilling the soil, the more sexually confused we all end up. 😔
I thank God every day that there are Catholic priests otherwise I would not be able to receive the Sacraments which are a necessity. ( I am an old cradle Catholic, raised in the faith and remember before Vatican II.) And I have to believe that the validity of a Sacrament is not affected by the state of the soul of the priest.
That being said, if someone offers me a giant bowl of fabulous looking cherries to eat, but with a caveat that 50 to 80% of the cherries are poisonous and you can’t tell them apart, I am going to abstain from all the cherries. In other words, I receive the Sacraments, do what I know I’m supposed to do as a Catholic, and I don’t listen to what priests say anymore because I don’t know who’s telling me the truth.
Thanks so much, Fr Gene. Priests being buried in the same grave? You were not thinking of Cardinal St John Henry Newman and his priest friend Ambrose St John? Which shows how long this has been going on.
You should have seen the guy in the comments section who was most upset when I suggested that this was the real reason that JHN is now a Doctor of the Church.
Remember the old idea that an incorrupt corpse was a sign of sanctity? When they tried exhuming JHN and his gentleman friend, there was nothing left of either of them. Was this a sign of non-sanctity? Apparently it was the fault of the damp British soil....
You should have seen the other commenter when I mentioned Cardinal Dzwisz and his deacon friend. He was demanding that the editor remove my comment if I did not. My comment stayed.
My Bishop sent out a pastoral letter just before Christmas pointing out the critical shortage of priests in our diocese and elsewhere. Obviously there is a fine line between an encouraging appeal and sounding totally desperate, which is only going to put good men off.
But he seems to have hit the right balance. Apparently 44 men are showing up for a preliminary meeting to talk about the priesthood. My parish priest is going to this social at the Cathedral on 4th Jan 2026.
One trusts that no one mentions the priest at the parish next to mine who made drunken sexual advances to the Master of Ceremonies. Whether our Bishop makes it clear to the 44 men that you are not welcome if you are an alcoholic, druggie or of troubled sexuality....well, you don't want to discourage too many too quickly. Beggars can't be choosers.
Beggars should still be choosers, even if you can’t find yourself motivated by anything altruistic. The financial cost of ordaining someone with psychopathology is hard to even measure.
Too right, Clayton . It is very fortunate that I am not an English Bishop. I might be too strongly tempted to ordain anyone, male, female or hermaphrodite, who had not yet been arrested. The vocations statistics in England and Wales have varied from disastrous to catastrophic since 2000.
The priest who made drunken advances to the Master of Ceremonies has been "c/o Bishop's House" for a few years. Our bishop ordained him in highly suspect circumstances and now dare not assign him to any parish, chaplaincy, etc. So we face a bill for maintaining a useless passenger indefinitely unless the Bishop finally starts laicisation.
Fortunately, to my knowledge, there has not been any legal action yet. Or we would be facing eyewatering legal bills. The diocese is already selling off property.
But money would be the least problem. With further reputational damage, loss of parishioners, loss of vocations... We can only hope that our Bishops learn from the countless horrible experiences and do not ordain in haste and desperation.
I’m sorry to hear about the situation in the UK, although I am not surprised. This is a global issue in the church and, by the looks of it, is not even remotely a new problem in the 21st century. I have become convinced, for a number of reasons I will delineate one day in a dedicated post, that the only solution is to repeal the mandate for clerical celibacy. It will not, of itself, eliminate the problem, but I firmly believe it’s a precondition for meaningful reform. The idea that celibacy is freely chosen by the vast majority of men who are responding to a call to be priests is a fiction, and the notion that you can make it a condition of ordination while at the same time calling it a free choice is nonsense. The mandate for all priests to be celibate did not come from the Lord Jesus, it came from the Church’s hierarchs, and it was not their proudest moment. Even at the time of its institution (circa 12th century, if I understand correctly), the church knew that mandatory celibacy could cause serious problems by giving cover to very immature and/or psychopathic candidates for ordination. Yet the church plowed forward. The big question is: why? What could possibly be worth the centuries of abuse? It’s hard to fathom. I suspect it had more to do with money than reform. It looks to me like a cover story for a theft.
“Pope Leo XIV has declared a special Jubilee Year from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi's death. During this time, the faithful can obtain a plenary indulgence by making a pilgrimage to a Franciscan church or participating spiritually if unable to travel.”
Why doesn’t Pope Leo XIV declare a real “Jubilee Year” and get rid of all the degenerates and homosexual prelates! Take the whole year to cull the episcopate. Corporations cut headcount when production is down, so cut the prelates not performing. This is run as corporation after all. It’s not a church by their low standards.
In the recently convened consistory, Radcliffe believes a homosexual pope poses no problem because he knows Leo is homosexual. So does everyone in the consistory.
My next article is: ‘WE ALL KNEW’ : ‘Culattoni Tutti Insieme’ It starts:
A psychotic person experiences hallucinations (seeing/hearing things not there) and delusions (fixed false beliefs). When Pope Leo XIV met with cardinals and bishops residing in Rome at Christmas, his Master of Ceremonies, Monsignor Marco Agostini, outed them by identifying them on an open microphone as “culattoni tutti insieme” (all the faggots together). Is Agostini psychotic? Does he suffer from hallucinations and delusions? Or, like most bishops, who said “We All Knew” about ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, is Agostini saying something about Pope Leo, the cardinals, and bishops that everyone (clergy, laity, media) knows, but is afraid to say?
Joe, I think you're going to enjoy the next article!
I hold the extreme position that V2 was the lit torch taken to Western civilization to burn it to the ground. Lose the Faith, lose the culture. But seriously… it was done so that poofty priests and prelates could safely bugger their way to hell and take the Church with them? As crazy as that sounds, that’s certainly how it looks on the surface.
No one is asking why the Opus Dei media empire is complicit in this coverup????
Opus Diaboli is more accurate. OD is the Infiltration by which the Synagogue of Satan labors around the clock to annihilate the Church that is Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ⚜️
It is one thing to pray, and another to stand up and to make our voices heard. Wake up, laity, and save our Church before we lose it. I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, AND IN WHAT I HAVE FAILED TO DO. Be able to go before Jesus Christ come your Judgment Day, look Him in the eye and say, I used everything You gave me!
You may know the May 2025 conclave was not valid and Prevost is the anti-pope leading the anti-church. A new Pope was elected 11/23/25 by the faithful of Rome. Check out sedesapostolica.info for details on the new orthodox Pope elect Hildebrand.
I can’t help but think of Saruman’s robe of many colors, “woven of all colors, and if he moved they shimmered and changed hue so that the eye was bewildered”
And Gandalf’s response:
“And he that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom”
When a man marries a man or a woman marries a woman it is not marriage. We mere mortals do not redefine what is divine.

The corruption of the best is the worst.
When did it become mandatory that priests be unmarried? Maybe at the same time the corruption took over?
Here is the answer to your question: https://johneighteenthirtyseven.substack.com/p/clerical-homosexuality-101-for-catholics

Depressing. Are there any straight bishops? Or popes?
Most of the straight bishops are in Africa and parts of Asia. JP II was straight.
Finding out JPII was straight is good news.
If there are, they are voiceless due to retaliatory actions that will be taken against them. I pray for Cardinal Burke to reject the silence and become a pivotal leader of the Truth. There are. But they are unlikely to get promoted to high office.
Generally speaking, the trustworthiness of a cleric is in inverse proportion to his rank.

Spot on analysis as always Gene
Thanks, Chip!!
The bishops only befriend the wealthy. They can’t afford to pay attention to the rest of us.

One gets supported and the other does not--because one is pretty and one is not.
Please!
Thank you. I really appreciate that. Good luck with it.
When silence becomes complicit….
